Please help!
In the year since we started Red Alert Animal Rescue, I have had more battles between my head and my heart than I can count. When it comes to helping an animal, my heart nearly always wins. On April 6, 2012, we received a desperate call from a family friend of one of our board members. Their beloved 6 year old male family pit bull, Rufus, had eaten what appeared to be a towel and needed life-saving surgery to have it removed. The surgery would cost a total of $2700, which the vet would not accept payments on, and which the family simply could not afford. My first instinct was to say no, there has to be another way, we just cannot afford to take this kind of risk. But when it was apparent that the only other options were euthanasia or letting him suffer and die on his own, I could not let this well cared for and incredibly loved family dog die, when his life could be saved. We paid the vet's office $2700 to perform the life saving surgery.
This is a HUGE amount of money for our very small rescue. We rely on the invaluable funds we have to vet, train, and care for the dogs in our rescue. We were in no position financially to do this, but would have never forgiven ourselves if we said no and let the dog die. We took a leap of faith, knowing that animals lovers are the most generous people in the world, who even in these very difficult financial times will dig deep into their pockets and share their last penny to help and animal in need.
We have raised a huge portion of the money back, but we are still working to make the final $760 back.
I hate having to ask for help when I know how many people are struggling now, but even just $5, or $1 for that matter, will help us make back this money so that we can continue to rescue dogs and care for them until they find their forever homes.
We are in the business of rescuing animals, which is what we did for Rufus. He may not have been in a shelter, he is lucky and has a loving home to go to, but he needed us just the same, and now we need you. Please consider making a donation, and please share this link with all your friends and family. http://pacnwredalert.chipin.com/rufus
